Arsenal pushing to sign £60m Dominic Calvert-Lewin

By on January 25, 2022

According to The Athletic, Arsenal will make a late push to try and sign £60m-rated Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin as Mikel Arteta looks to bring in three new additions by the end of the month.

The boss has made it clear he wants to strengthen the squad this winter to aid Arsenal’s pursuit of a top four finish and a new striker is a priority after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was banished from the team.

Arsenal have spent most of the month trying to land Dusan Vlahovic but the Fiorentina hitman appears to have snubbed a potential move to the Emirates Stadium in favour of joining Juventus.

It’s left Arsenal looking at alternative targets and The Athletic says the club are showing an interest in signing Calvert-Lewin with the Everton striker reportedly keen on the idea of moving to North London.

The 24-year-old would be an excellent fit at Arsenal and The Athletic says his £60m valuation hasn’t deterred the club from making a late push for his signature during the closing stages of the window.

However, Everton are going to be extremely reluctant to let Calvert-Lewin leave mid-season as they face a battle for survival over the coming months and with the striker under contract until 2025, the Merseysiders are under no pressure to sell. It means a January move to Arsenal is highly unlikely so realistically we’ll have to wait until the summer if we want to sign the England international.

Arteta still needs to bring in another striker though and The Athletic says Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak is also target while a loan move for Real Madrid’s Luka Jovic could also be a late option.

Arsenal are also in the market for a new central midfielder and the report says Arteta’s prime targets are Douglas Luiz, Ruben Neves, Tyler Adams and Bruno Guimaraes but deals for all four will also be difficult this month.

Arthur Melo has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks but The Athletic suggests that a proposed loan move now looks difficult with Juventus demanding an 18-month deal.

The final area Arteta is looking to strengthen is between the sticks and the report says Arsenal are still looking to wrap-up a deal to sign New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Bernd Leno is being linked with a move this month so Turner is being eyed as a replacement for the German and someone who can provide cover to Aaron Ramsdale.

So it looks as though Arsenal are going to be extremely busy during the final days of the January window as Arteta looks to bring in up to three new signings. We’ll have to wait and see how many the club are able to secure…
