Arsenal have submitted a player-plus-cash offer worth £45m cash plus Lucas Torreira in exchange for Fiorentina hitman Dusan Vlahovic, according to Ben Jacobs.

Mikel Arteta has turned things around at the Emirates in recent months as we currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, however, the squad still needs plenty of work if we’re to be competing at the top level again.

A new striker is desperately needed as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looks set to leave after falling out with Arteta. The Gabon striker was stripped of the captaincy following a repeated rule breach and was subsequently frozen out of the squad.

It remains to be seen whether Aubameyang will play for Arsenal again but he’s been made available for transfer this month. Alexandre Lacazette has filled Auba’s boots in recent games but he’s out-of-contract in July and is yet to sign an extension.

Eddie Nketiah is also expected to leave the club after refusing to sign a new deal so Arsenal could realistically lose their main three strikers over the coming months. Therefore, Arteta is in the market for reinforcements.

Vlahovic has been touted as a key target for some time and it looks like Arsenal have now stepped-up their interest as journalist Ben Jacobs has confirmed reports that we’ve tabled a formal offer. Jacobs says we’ve informed Fiorentina we’ll pay £45m and include Torreira as part of the deal.

Torreira included

However, Arsenal could now face stiff competition for his signature as the CBS Sports journalist claims Chelsea have entered the race to sign Vlahovic and the player is supposedly ‘not yet fully sold on Arsenal’.

Torreira is currently enjoying a successful loan spell at Fiorentina but we’ll make the move permanent as part of the player-plus-cash deal for Vlahovic. Torreira is valued at around £12.5m so the entire offer is worth around £57.5m.

It sounds like a great deal for Arsenal as we’d reduce the outlay to sign Vlahovic by offloading an unwanted player, but we’ll have to wait and see whether Fiorentina are open to the proposal. Personally, I think they’ll hold out for more money as Vlahovic is wanted by several other European clubs as well as Chelsea so they may be confident of getting a better offer.

The 21-year-old is one of the hottest young talents in Europe having scored 22 goals in 40 games this season so it would be a major coup if Arsenal were to win the race for his signature.

He’s a 6ft 3in centre-forward who can hold the ball up, link-up play and has an eye for goal so Vlahovic has all the attributes needed to be an excellent addition to the squad. Let’s hope Arsenal can get a deal over the line.
