Martinelli injury boost but Smith Rowe could miss Saints game
Gabriel Martinelli is fit for Arsenal’s game against Southampton on Saturday but Emile Smith Rowe and Bernd Leno remain doubts, the club have confirmed today.
Arsenal entertain the Saints at the Emirates Stadium tomorrow afternoon [3pm kick off] and thankfully Martinelli has been passed fit despite hobbling off against Everton on Monday night. The Brazilian was substituted in the second half during our defeat at Goodison Park but luckily the injury isn’t serious so the medical team have given Martinelli the all-clear to play this weekend.
Smith Rowe on the other hand remains a doubt to face Southampton after missing Arsenal’s defeat at Everton. The attacker picked up a muscle injury during the loss at Man Utd last week and will need to be assessed by the medical department before his availability is known for tomorrow’s game.
Mikel Arteta could also be without his No.2 goalkeeper again as Bernd Leno is still a doubt to face Southampton. The German stopper has missed Arsenal’s last two matches with a groin issue that he picked up in training and he’ll need to be checked over before a decision is made over his participation this weekend.
The final update from the club concerns the fitness of Sead Kolasinac and obviously he’s still unavailable against Southampton as the full-back has been ruled out until next month due to an ankle injury that he sustained during the November international break.
An update on Arsenal.com said:
Sead Kolasinac
Left ankle. Sead sustained a significant injury to his left ankle playing for Bosnia and Herzegovina during the November international period. Sead is now running outside and is aiming to be back in full training in January.Bernd Leno
Right groin. Bernd sustained a groin issue in training last week and is being assessed ahead of Saturday’s match.Gabriel Martinelli
Gabi was substituted during the match against Everton on Monday. He has been fully assessed since and is fit and available for selection for Saturday’s match.Emile Smith Rowe
Right groin. Emile sustained a groin issue during the match against Manchester United last week and is being assessed ahead of Saturday’s match.
Let’s hope Smith Rowe is passed fit as I think we missed him against Everton and Arsenal desperately need to beat Southampton after losing three of our last four games to fall four points adrift of the top four.
