Arsenal eye £76m double swoop: Player undergoing medical + fresh offer submitted

According to the Daily Mail, Ben White is undergoing his medical this weekend ahead of his £50m move to Arsenal while we’ve also submitted an offer worth up to £26m for Aaron Ramsdale.

White has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer after he was identified as Mikel Arteta’s prime target as the boss looks to replace David Luiz – who’s left the club following the expiration of his contract.

Many fans thought William Saliba would be given a chance at the club but Arteta decided he wasn’t ready so he’s joined Marseille on a season long loan deal meaning Arsenal are in the market for another centre-back.

White is the man we’ve gone for and after seeing two bids rejected by Brighton, Arsenal finally agreed a deal worth £50m with the south coast club earlier this month [source: Sky Sports News].

talkSPORT claimed White has agreed terms with Arsenal over a five-year contract so all that remained was for the centre-back to undergo his  medical before the deal could be completed.

The proposed transfer was put on ice while White enjoyed a holiday in Mykonos with some of his England team mates following their participation at Euro 2020 this summer.

However, the Daily Mail says the 23-year-old is now back in the UK to undergo his medical this weekend before completing his £50m move from Brighton to Arsenal.

As long as there are no complications, White should be unveiled as Arsenal’s third major signing of the summer over the coming days. He’ll follow Albert Lokonga and Nuno Tavares in moving to the club this summer.

Ramsdale bid

However, White isn’t likely to be last arrival at Arsenal as the club are also in the market for several further new additions, including a new goalkeeper to replace Mat Ryan – who left after his loan came to an end.

Ramsdale has emerged as a top target and the Daily Mail says Arsenal have submitted a fresh offer for the player worth £18m up front plus another £8m in add-ons meaning the deal could be worth £26m.

Sheffield United have already rejected a lower offer from Arsenal and this one if expected to be knocked back too as the newspaper says it’s well below the Championship clubs’ £32m valuation.

I don’t think we should be paying anywhere near £32m for Ramsdale and our £18m + £8m offer seems very reasonable for the 23-year-old, so I hope Arsenal don’t go much higher.

If we could persuade Sheffield United to accept our offer then Arsenal would be about to splash up to £76m on two signings taking our summer spending past the £100m mark when you also include the fees for Lokonga and Tavares.

So you can’t say the club aren’t backing Arteta this summer! My big concern is we wouldn’t have strengthened the first team that much for the £100m outlay, but there’s still plenty of time for Arsenal to bring in the top class midfielder and No.10 we desperately need.
