No Locatelli

Mikel Arteta is trying to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season but according to the journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio, Manuel Locatelli is not seriously considering the option of moving to Arsenal.

The Gunners boss has identified Locatelli as a key transfer target this summer as he looks to replace Granit Xhaka – who’s likely to move to Roma. However, Arsenal face a battle with Juventus to sign the Italian international.

Juve have submitted a proposal to Sassuolo offering to take Locatelli on an initial two year loan with the option to buy for 30m Euro’s, but it was rejected. Negotiations will continue between the two Serie A clubs as Locatelli is seen as a priority signing for Juventus but Arsenal are doing their best to lure the midfielder to England. The Gunners are prepared to pay 40m Euro’s this summer so they’re currently offering Sassuolo the best financial package.

However, according to the journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio, Locatelli favours a move to Juventus over the Emirates Stadium as he wants to remain in Italy. For that reason, a transfer to London looks increasingly unlikely so the 23-year-old will either join Juve or remain at Sassuolo.

Locatelli is flattered by Juve’s interest

Locatelli has been competing for his country this summer and helped Italy win the European Championships after scoring 2 goals in 5 games. Speaking earlier this month, the midfielder said he has not thought about his future as he’s been focussed on helping Italy at the Euro’s but admitted the interest from Juventus was flattering.

“My future; I haven’t thought about it too much. I was with the national team on the field, and I had to give my best in the tournament. I had to do it for all the Italians who followed us, who came away from home and supported us even from afar “.

“Juventus is a great team. I’m happy with the interest in me.”

While he’d no doubt be an excellent signing for Arsenal, it looks unlikely he’ll be coming to the club this summer and no probably end up at Juventus.
