“Personal terms agreed” – Fabrizio Romano offers update as Arsenal close on £15m deal

By on July 5, 2021

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are working on the final details of a proposed £15m deal to sign Albert Lokonga and have already agreed personal terms with the Anderlecht midfielder.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with Lokonga in recent weeks as Mikel Arteta tries to revamp his midfield following the exits of Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard – who’ve returned to Real Madrid.

Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi are also expected to leave Arsenal so we’re in the market for midfield reinforcements and Lokonga has been identified as a prime target.

After weeks of negotiations, it looks like Arsenal are finally about to get a deal wrapped-up as Fabrizio Romano has provided an update today and he says we’re working on the final details of a proposed deal.

The Guardian journalist says Arsenal have offered £15m [€17m] guaranteed plus another £3.6m [€4.5m] in possible bonuses but the clubs are now finalising details about a future sale percentage clause.

Once that’s resolved, the deal should be swiftly wrapped-up as Romano says Lokonga has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal and the player hasn’t travelled with the rest of the Anderlecht squad to their pre-season training camp in Holland.

So it looks as though Arsenal are on the verge of signing Lokonga and the 22-year-old should prove to be an excellent long-term signing for the club as he’s one of the best young talents in Belgian football.

Lokonga is known for his excellent passing range and his ability to carry the ball forwards so he could be viewed as a Xhaka-Partey hybrid type player.

It will certainly be interesting to see how he’s used by Arteta next season as it’s difficult to see him being ready for the first team just yet, but you never know. He might get thrown in at the deep end if we don’t sign another top class midfielder this summer.

Lokonga won’t be the only arrival as Arsenal are also reportedly on the verge of signing left-back Nuno Tavares from Benfica while we’re still in the hunt for Brighton defender Ben White.
