Fabrizio Romano: ‘Done deal’ – Arsenal agree deal to sign key target, medical soon

By on June 30, 2021

It looks like Nuno Tavares is set to become an Arsenal player with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano describing the move as a ‘done deal’.

Tavares has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal this month after Mikel Arteta identified the Benfica youngster as a prime transfer target as the boss looks to bring in another left-back this summer.

Kieran Tierney has signed a new long-term contract and will obviously be our first choice left-back next season but we need support for the Scottish international – who’s had his fair share of injury issues.

Sead Kolasinac spent last season out on loan and is set for a permanent move away this summer so Arsenal need a back-up for Tierney and it looks like Tavares is the man the club have opted for.

After weeks of negotiations, Guardian journalist Fabrizio Romano says the move is now a ‘done deal’ with Arsenal set to pay Benfica an initial £6.9m [€8m] plus additional add-ons for the defender.

He tweeted:

Nuno Tavares to Arsenal, done deal and ‘here we go’ confirmed. Paperworks to be signed today between #AFC and Benfica board for €8m + add ons.

Medical soon

To support this, Portuguese publication A Bola also claims Arsenal have agreed a £6.9m [€8m] deal and they say the add-ons are worth around £1.7m [€2m], meaning the total deal could be worth around £8.6m.

A Bola also says personal terms have been agreed with Tavares tripling his current wages and the left-back is expected to travel to London ‘in the next few hours’ to undergo his medical with Arsenal.

The 21-year-old looks set to become our first signing of the summer and Tavares should be a terrific long-term addition to the squad as he’s considered to be one of the hottest young talents in Portuguese football.

It’s good to see Arsenal working smartly in the transfer market this summer as we’re identifying young talent who’ll enhance the squad and will improve further over the coming years. Importantly, they also have the potential to increase their value significantly.

Tavares is expected to be the first of many signings this summer with Arsenal also strongly linked with midfielder Albert Lokongo, centre-back Ben White and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
