According to football.london, Arsenal are set to table an improved £45m bid for Ben White as Mikel Arteta looks to land one of his key transfer targets as soon as possible.

Arteta is in the market for a right-sided central defender this summer after David Luiz left Arsenal following the expiration of his contract and White has emerged as our main target.

Widespread reports this week have claimed that Arsenal are locked in negotiations with Brighton and football.london says we’ll now return with an improved offer after seeing an opening £40m rejected.

The report says Brighton are demanding £50m for the 23-year-old but Arsenal’s improved offer is likely to be £45m and we hope to get a deal agreed swiftly before rival clubs create a bidding war.

The likes of Liverpool and Manchester United have also been linked with White recently so it makes sense for Arsenal to try and get a deal done before they step-up their interest in the defender.

football.london says Arteta is keen to get his transfer business done early and Arsenal have submitted four offers for players this week with Anderlecht midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga and Leicester star James Maddison named as targets.

Busy summer

It’s certainly promising to be a busy summer at Arsenal and I think White would be a terrific signing – although I’m concerned at how much we’ll have left in the kitty if we spend £45m on one player.

Arteta needs to buy a right-back, left-back, at least two central midfielders and a goalkeeper in addition to a centre-back and money is tight after we failed to qualify for Europe for the first time in over 25 years.

Arsenal will look to raise funds with the sale of players such as Granit Xhaka, Hector Bellerin, Sead Kolasinac, Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira, Joe Willock and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

If we can get decent money for that lot then we should have enough funds to sign White and several other targets. Let’s see how things progress over the coming days/weeks….
