Player keen on move after Arsenal hold positive talks over deal to sign 23-year-old star

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal have held positive talks with Brighton over a potential move to sign £50m-rated defender Ben White this summer.

Mikel Arteta needs to overhaul his squad after Arsenal missed out on European qualification following our eighth placed finish last season. We need a couple of full-backs, a goalkeeper, at least two midfielders, an attacking midfielder and possibly another attacker if Lacazette doesn’t sign a new deal.

So there is plenty of business needing to be done over the coming weeks but it looks like Arteta is also in the market for another centre-back as White has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in recent days.

The Daily Mail now claims that Gunners’ chiefs have held ‘positive talks’ over their move to sign the Brighton man and they say White is keen on making a switch to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

According to the newspaper, Arsenal are now trying to figure out how to make a deal fit within our budget as Brighton are demanding around £50m for White’s signature.

The 23-year-old signed a four-year deal worth £35,000-a-week at Brighton 12 months ago but he’ll be expecting a significant wage increase if he joins Arsenal having been named in the England Euro 2020 squad.

Saliba out, White in?

White is predominantly a right sided centre-back so he’s probably being eyed as a partner for Gabriel but his arrival would cast further doubt over the future of William Saliba – who’s yet to play a competitive game for Arsenal.

However, before we get too ahead of ourselves, we could still face stiff competition for White’s signature as the Mail says Liverpool and Man Utd are also keen on the defender.

Not only that, I really don’t see how Arsenal can afford to spend £50m on a centre-back when we have so many other positions that need strengthened. And Arteta’s budget must surely have been adversely affected by our failure to secure European football next season?

It’s going to be a busy summer in north London but I’d personally be shocked if Arsenal end up spending huge money on a centre-back so Brighton may have to lower their demands if we’re to land White.

Why should Brighton help Arsenal and lower their demands? That’s the price and if you want him then that’s the price they will have to pay unless of course, they sort out some staggered payments, but if I were Brighton I would insist on full payment to help their own finances.
