Arsenal will be hoping to build some momentum with another win when we take on Fulham at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

We put in one of our best performances of the season last night as we booked our place in the semi finals of the Europa League with an impressive 4-0 win at Slavia Prague.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed the trip to the Czech Republic. The Arsenal skipper has been unwell recently and he confirmed shortly before kick-off last night that he contracted malaria while away with the Gabon squad during the March international break.

Arteta has provided an update and confirmed that Aubameyang is back home recovering after spending two days in hospital. The striker is keen to get back on the pitch ASAP but he will be assessed over the coming days to see when he’ll be able to make his return.

The boss told Arsenal.com:

on the latest team news and Auba’s situation…
As we all know, he had malaria – he picked it up when he travelled in the international break and he didn’t have any symptoms and then got some symptoms a few days later. We didn’t know what it was bus the doctor did a great job by making some further investigation and we found out he had picked it up. He had some rough days, he was in hospital for two days but now he is at home, he is safe and he is in good condition and ready to come back.

on when he will be available for selection…
Let’s see how he recovers, obviously when you get a disease like this it can take a bit for the body to feel in good condition to the extreme condition we put the body through in our sport. But he wants to come back very quickly, he is looking forward to being back with the team so let’s wait.

Let’s hope Auba is able to make a swift recovery as it can sometimes take months to fully overcome malaria. I don’t see any way he’ll be involved against Fulham on Sunday but perhaps he might be back in the squad against Everton next Friday.

Martin Odegaard was another absentee against Slavia Prague as he’s still recovering from an ankle injury that’s bothered him since the international break last month.

Arteta hasn’t provided an update on the midfielder’s condition today but he must still be a doubt for the visit of Fulham on Sunday. It doesn’t sound too serious though so Odegaard should be back in action soon.

Otherwise, the only other injury concerns as David Luiz and Kieran Tierney – who remain on the sidelines with knee injuries – so Arteta has a decent squad to choose from this weekend.
