Thomas Partey has been ruled out of Arsenal’s trip to Leeds United on Sunday with Mikel Arteta describing the injury as ‘significant’.

Partey picked up the thigh problem during the early stages of Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa two weeks ago and while he tried to carry on, the midfielder was eventually replaced at half-time.

The 27-year-old was subsequently ruled out of the Ghana squad for their games during the international break and the club confirmed on Arsenal.com earlier today that Partey won’t be available for the Leeds game as he continues to be assessed.

Arteta then held his pre-match press conference and told reporters that they knew Partey’s injury was ‘significant’ and although the player is working hard to return to action soon, they need to be careful not to rush him back too quickly.

Arteta is quoted as saying by Football London:

“We knew it was a significant injury. He’s done very well and he’s working very hard, he wants to be available. Hopefully we can get him back soon but it’s an area where we need to be careful & we need to be protective with the player.”

Let’s pray Partey makes a swift recovery as it would be a disaster to lose our big summer signing to a lengthy injury, especially just as we head into a hectic period of the season.

Arsenal have also confirmed in their team news update on Arsenal.com that Mohamed Elneny and Sead Kolasinac will miss the trip to Elland Road after testing positive for covid during the international break.

However, there is some good news regarding two of our long-term absentees as Pablo Mari and Gabriel Martinelli are both close to returning to action following lengthy lay-offs.

Mari is now back in full training after recovering from an ankle injury so he should be available soon while Martinelli is expected to be back in squad training sessions in the next two weeks as he steps-up his recovery from a knee ligament issue.

Calum Chambers continued his journey back to the first team with a run out for the U23s today so while Arteta will still be without a number of players this weekend, the squad should be in great shape in a few weeks time.
