Arsenal star forced to withdraw from international duty after picking-up injury

According to Goal, Thomas Partey has withdrawn from international duty with Ghana after suffering a thigh injury during Arsenal’s embarrassing defeat to Aston Villa last night.

Partey was rested for the Europa League group stages victory over Molde last week but was recalled to start alongside Mohamed Elneny for our Premier League encounter with Villa at the Emirates on Sunday.

Unfortunately, the 27-year-old felt his thigh early on in the game and while he was able to make it until half-time, Partey failed to appear after the break with Dani Ceballos replacing him for the second half.

Mikel Arteta confirmed after the game that Partey will have a scan on Monday to determine the full extent of the injury but the boss said he wasn’t sure the midfielder would link-up with his country this week.

Arteta told Arsenal.com last night:

“We don’t know [the extent] of it. We have to scan him tomorrow or the day after and see what he felt straight away. Let’s wait and see what the magnitude of the injury is.

“I don’t know [if he will go away with Ghana now]. As I said, the doctor will have to have a look at him and probably scan him. Then we will decide what to do with him.”

However, Goal are reporting that Partey has been now withdrawn from the Ghana squad and won’t take part in his countries African Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Sudan.

The report says Partey will remain in north London to receive treatment but the player is believed to be in ‘positive mood’ and is hopeful he won’t be on the sidelines for too long.

That sounds encouraging so hopefully the scan results are positive when they are released as it would be a big blow if he was ruled out for a significant period of time.

Arsenal’s next game sees us travel to Elland Road to face Leeds United on November 22nd so we’ll have to wait and see whether Partey recovers in time to make that match.

Let’s hope so as we desperately need to get back to winning ways following Sunday’s embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Villa – which was our fourth loss in eight Premier League games.
