[Ratings] Man Utd 0-1 Arsenal: Gabriel & Partey outstanding for dominant Gunners

By on November 1, 2020

Arsenal finally won a huge game away from home after beating Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford this evening.

We started very well and bossed the opening 45 minutes but couldn’t find that killer touch to make our dominance count. Willian clipped the bar and Bukayo Saka headed over when well placed but we had to settle for 0-0 at the break.

Arsenal continued to push in the second half and got the perfect opportunity to open the scoring when Paul Pogba brought down Hector Bellerin in the box. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang converted to make it 1-0 in the 69th minute.

We kept United at arms length for the final 20 minutes and managed to hold out to secure a huge 1-0 win against one of the ‘big 6’ for the first time in 29 attempts.

Here are my ratings:

Leno  6/10 | Solid save with his feet to deny Greenwood but didn’t have too much else to do in terms of shot-stopping. Solid playing it about at the back.

Bellerin  7/10 | Almost put it on a plate for Aubameyang in the first half and was a threat going forward. Did well defensively too and won the penalty.

Gabriel  8.5/10 | Monstrous display at the back. Made a few superb tackles, including an excellent last-ditch tackle in the box late on. Perhaps lucky not to be sent off for a second booking but overall this was another superb performance. What a signing by Arsenal.

Holding  7.5/10 | One poor headed clearance shouldn’t spoil what was a terrific display. Battled well to keep United at bay after being rushed back from injury.

Tierney  7/10 | Miss-timed header almost cost us a goal early in the second half but was otherwise great. Linked up well with Saka and put in a couple of superb crosses.

Elneny  8/10 | A surprise selection ahead of Xhaka but it worked wonders. Great call by Arteta. He worked his socks off, hounding the United players and didn’t give them a minutes peace.

Thomas  9/10 | Best player on the park and dominated the midfield. Make countless interceptions, 11 [!] recoveries, drove the ball forward and basically ran the game. I hate to make the comparison, but he did remind me of Vieira at times. MOTM.

Saka  7/10 | Missed a free header to open the scoring just before half time but was full of energy and was a threat down the left, particularly in the first half. Mature performance from the youngster.

Willian  6.5/10 | Clipped the bar in the first half and worked hard but still not at his best in attack yet. A few nice interchanges but nothing special from him.

Lacazette  6.5/10 | Great pressing up front to keep the United side busy and worked his socks off but his hold-up play wasn’t up to scratch. His first touch was sloppy too often. Subbed.

Aubameyang  7/10 | Curled one just wide from the edge of the box but kept his cool to open the scoring from the penalty spot. Still not at his best but got the all-important winner for Arsenal.

Subs:

Nketiah   6/10 | Kept the United defence busy during the final 15 minutes.

Maitland-Niles, Mustafi  N/A | On too late
