Arsenal suffer major injury concern ahead of Man City trip
According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal are sweating on the fitness of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after the striker pulled out of international duty due to an ankle injury.
Aubameyang sustained the injury during Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Sheffield United last weekend after being on the wrong end of a heavy challenge in the first half.
The skipper was able to continue after receiving treatment but didn’t look entirely comfortable for the rest of the match as we secured an important three points with a narrow win over the Blades.
Aubameyang was called-up by Gabon for their friendly with Benin on October 11 and he was meant to travel to Lisbon with his international team-mates later this week to prepare for the game.
However, Gabon national team coach Patrice Neveu has revealed that they’ve received confirmation from Arsenal’s medical team that Aubameyang has withdrawn from the squad due to his ankle injury.
Neveu is quoted by the Evening Standard as telling Radio France Internationale:
“Aubameyang suffers from a small sprained ankle, contracted on Sunday, during the Premier League match against Sheffield,”
“The Arsenal doctor sent me a certificate indicating his unavailability. He is in care for a week.”
It means Mikel Arteta is now facing an anxious wait to see how the 31-year-old recovers over the coming week as the Gunners boss prepares to take his squad to the Etihad Stadium next weekend.
We take on Manchester City on Saturday 17th October and it sounds like Aubameyang’s injury isn’t serious as the Gabon coach described it as a ‘small sprain’ so hopefully the striker makes a swift recovery.
Arsenal have been hugely reliant on Aubameyang for goals ever since he arrived at the club and he netted 23 times in the Premier League alone last season which accounted for 41% of our goals.
It would be a major blow if Auba was ruled out of the trip to City next weekend as Arsenal look to continue their impressive start to the new season having won three of our four league games so far.
