Arsenal to submit big-money bid for 22-year-old star after agreeing personal terms

According to reports, Arsenal are to submit a formal £36m offer for Houssem Aouar after already agreeing personal terms with the Lyon playmaker.

Mikel Arteta is trying to overhaul his midfield for the new season and Aouar has been widely touted as a prime target in recent weeks with a number of reports suggesting we’re in for the French U21 international.

It looks like Arsenal are ready to formalise their interest as French outlet Telefoot Chaine, via the Express, claims that Arsenal will test Lyon’s resolve with an opening £36m imminently.

The offer will fall short of Lyon’s reported £54m asking price but L’Equipe claimed recently that Aouar has informed the French outfit that he wants to leave so that should force them to lower their valuation.

Lyon director Juninho has already confirmed he’s held talks with Edu about a possible deal for Aouar so we know the interest is there, but he also said they aren’t up for taking Matteo Guendouzi as part of any deal. Therefore, we’re going to have to stump up the cash if we want to get a deal done.

The Express says Edu has spoken to the 22-year-old’s agent on a number of occasions and journalist Nicolo Schira, via the Daily Star, claims Arsenal have already agreed personal terms with Aouar over a five-year contract.

If true, that’s a huge hurdle out the way and the main stumbling block now is agreeing a fee with Lyon. Obviously that won’t be straightforward but Arsenal’s transfer kitty was boosted with the £20m sale of Emi Martinez yesterday.

We also hope to raise extra funds with the sale of Lucas Torreira, Sokratis, Sead Kolasinac and Matteo Guendouzi so hopefully Arsenal can generate enough money to be able to afford Aouar and perhaps even have enough left over for Thomas Partey as well.

The Mirror says Arteta wants BOTH players and that would make sense if we’re looking to offload Guendouzi and Torreira. If Arsenal could replace Guendouzi and Torreira with Partey and Aouar then I think it would be fantastic business.

Let’s see how things progress but it sounds like it’s going to be a busy few weeks before the window closes on October 5th.
