Confirmed line-ups: Fulham vs Arsenal – Willian & Gabriel make debuts
Arsenal kick-off the 2020/21 Premier League season with a tricky trip across London to Craven Cottage to take on newly-promoted Fulham.
Bernd Leno starts in goal with Emi Martinez not in the travelling squad as he edges closer to leaving the club this summer. Willian is handed his competitive debut in attack with Nicolas Pepe only named on the bench.
Gabriel also makes his debut in defence in what appears to be a back three alongside Rob Holding and Kieran Tierney. Hector Bellerin starts on the right with Ainsley Maitland-Niles on the left.
Granit Xhaka is partnered by Mohamed Elneny in midfield as Dani Ceballos is only fit enough for a place on the bench having only recently started pre-season. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang starts in the Arsenal attack along with Alexandre Lacazette.
Surprisingly, William Saliba isn’t in the squad and David Luiz missed out with a neck injury so Arsenal don’t have a recognised centre-back on the bench. Mesut Ozil and Matteo Guendouzi still aren’t selected but Bukayo Saka, Eddie Nketiah, Joe Willock and Sead Kolasinac are all named among the substitutes.
These are the teams:
Arsenal
Leno; Holding, Gabriel, Tierney; Bellerin, Elneny, Xhaka, Maitland-Niles; Willian, Lacazette, Aubameyang
Subs: Pépé, Macey, Saka, Nketiah, Ceballos, Kolasinac, Willock
Fulham
Rodak, Odoi, Hector, Ream, Bryan, Reed, Cairney, Kebano, Onomah, Ivan Cavaleiro, Kamara
Subs: Areola, Mitrovic, Knockaert, Reid, Le Marchand, Christie, Zambo
