Gabriel Magalhaes looked delighted as he posed with his family wearing the new Arsenal home shirt after completing his £27m move from Lille.

The 22-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium all summer after Mikel Arteta identified him as his prime target as the Gunners boss looked to shore-up his leaky defence.

Arsenal emerged as the front-runners for his signature after Arteta and Edu convinced Gabriel to turn down a number of other offers from competing clubs in favour of a move to north London.

The Times reported last week that the South American centre-back was heading for his medical after agreeing terms over a five-year contract worth £80,000-a-week after Arsenal had struck a £27m deal with Lille.

Fans were left waiting patiently for the official confirmation but we finally announced Gabriel’s arrival on Monday evening via a video involving Brazilian compatriot’s Willian and David Luiz.

Arsenal confirmed on Arsenal.com that Gabriel has joined the club on a long-term contract and will wear the No.6 shirt this season after becoming our fourth major signing of the summer following the arrival of Willian, Cedric Soares [permanent] and Pablo Mari [permanent].

The club have now shared a photo on Facebook of Gabriel posing for a photo with his family wearing the new Arsenal home kit. We saw the defender wearing the away kit yesterday but this is the first snap of him in the famous Red & White and he looks glorious!

I have high hopes for Gabriel as he has all the attributes needed to become a top class defender for us. The Brazilian U20 international has developed into one of the most highly-rated young centre-backs in Europe over the past two years and this is a real coup from Arsenal to land him.

Gabriel could now form an exciting partnership alongside William Saliba and Arsenal could finally have a reliable centre-back pairing to help solve our issues at the back this coming season.

Our latest new recruit has been endearing himself to Arsenal fans after aiming a cheeky ‘London is red’ message to Tottenham and Chelsea on social media. Good lad!
