Arsenal battling to sign £50m star as Arteta looks to land 2nd summer signing

By on August 26, 2020

According to reports via The Sun, Arsenal are plotting a move to sign £50m-rated Lille star Boubakary Soumare this summer but we could face competition from Manchester United.

Mikel Arteta is desperately trying to revamp the squad he inherited from Unai Emery and the boss has already snapped up Brazilian winger Willian on a free transfer following his exit from Chelsea.

However, Arteta knows we need to strengthen in midfield as it’s been a weak area for Arsenal for some time and we’re going to be light in the middle of the park unless we bring in some new additions.

Matteo Guendouzi is expected to leave following his bust-up with Arteta last season, Lucas Torreira is being linked with a move back to Italy after struggling to establish himself under the new regime while Arsenal are yet to seal a deal to re-sign Dani Ceballos.

So we need to bring in a couple of midfielders this summer and the Sun are citing a report that originates from Foot Mercato that claims Arsenal are eyeing a big-money move to sign Lille star Soumare.

However, we aren’t the only club in the running as the report suggests that Manchester United are also keen on the 21-year-old so Arsenal could face a tough battle with our Premier League rivals to land the highly-rated midfielder.

Soumare is a product of the PSG youth system but has developed into one of the best young midfield talents in French football since joining Lille in 2017 and he played a key role in helping them qualify for the Europa League this coming campaign.

The French under-21 international is tipped for a big future so understandably Lille aren’t going to let him go on the cheap and the Sun suggests any deal would cost around £50m this summer.

Arsenal are working from a tight budget so Arteta will need to sell in order to raise the required funds but we should hopefully raise a decent amount of money if we can offload Guendouzi and Torreira.

Any move for Soumare could be part of a double raid on Lille as Arsenal are widely expected to complete a £27m deal for centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes over the coming days.
