According to ESPN, Arsenal have secured the signature of Willian on a three-year deal worth around £100,000-a-week and the move will be announced later this month.

Willian has enjoyed seven successful seasons at Chelsea where he’s contributed 63 goals and 62 assists to help them win two Premier League titles and he was once again one of their best players this campaign.

However, the Brazilian international is out of contract this month and has decided to try something new after Chelsea only offered him a two-year extension instead of the three-year deal he was looking for.

Arsenal are among the clubs who’ve been strongly linked with a move for the South American winger in recent weeks with widespread reports suggesting we’ve been in talks with Willian’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, about a move to the Emirates.

Despite rival interest from here and abroad, ESPN claims today that Arsenal have won the race to sign Willian after agreeing terms over a three-year deal worth around £100,000-a-week.

The report says the transfer is expected to be formally announced later this month, presumably once Chelsea’s exit from the Champions League is confirmed as they’re almost certain to get knocked out by Bayern.

So, it looks like Arsenal are about to sign Willian and the fans seen split on the move. Many claim it’s madness to sign a player who’ll turn 32 on Sunday on a three-year deal, and of course they have a point.

However, if ESPN are right and the contract is worth £100k a week then it’s not that bad a deal for us and let’s not forget Willian has been excellent for Chelsea this season so he’s still in his prime.

Arteta needs to add more creativity to the side and Willian contributed 11 goals and 9 assists this campaign so this could be a key signing for Arsenal. He can also play anywhere across the attacking midfield positions so will be a very useful player for Arteta.

The Brazilian won’t need any adaptation time as he knows English football well and he’ll provide Arsenal with a different type of player in attack so I actually think Willian will be a good addition to the squad.

He might not be the only South American to sign for Arsenal this summer as ESPN also claim that we’re in for Lille centre-back Gabriel while Philippe Coutinho continues to be linked so we could have a real ‘Brazilian’ vibe next season.
