[Ratings] Burnley 0-0 Arsenal: Mustafi solid, Lacazette’s drought continues

By on February 2, 2020

Arsenal failed to make the most of some early chances as we were held to a 0-0 draw by Burnley at Turf Moor this afternoon.

We started well and should have opened the scoring in the 2nd minute but Alexandre Lacazette headed wide when unmarked in the area. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang soon missed another great chance to break the deadlock after scuffing his shot after being put through on goal.

Arsenal’s early dominance soon faded as Burnley took over and the hosts should have won it when Jay Rodriguez saw his close-range shot come off the underside of the bar and bounce onto the line before being cleared.

Neither side could find a winner so we had to settle for a 0-0 draw which leaves us sitting 10th in the Premier League table and 10 points adrift of the top four.

Here are my ratings:

Leno  6/10 | Made a few decent stops, including one great save to deny Rodriguez. Deserved his clean sheet.

Bellerin  6/10 | A little slow to close down at times and his final ball into the box was disappointing when he got forwards.

Mustafi  7.5/10 | A very solid display from the German. Didn’t really put a foot wrong and did well against a physical Burnley frontline. Made 7 clearances, 4 headed clearances and won 6 of his 8 duels.

Luiz  7/10 | Great ball put Auba through in the first half and battled well against Wood and Rodriguez.

Saka  7/10 | Was a great outlet early on and put in a couple of superb crosses. However, picked up a hip problem and was forced off at half-time.

Guendouzi  6.5/10 | Saw plenty of the ball but there were too many sideways passes. Far too often he opted for the easier ball rather than play it forwards to get an attack going. Still worked hard though.

Xhaka  6.5/10 | Did well enough in front of the defence but still think he prefers to play alongside Torreira. Coped well after moving to left-back in the second half.

Martinelli  6/10 | Wasn’t as effective playing from the right wing. Had a couple of half-chances but wasn’t to be his day.

Ozil  6/10 | Bright start from the German as he found space to hurt Burnley. However, Ozil drifted out of the game as Arsenal’s dominance faded.

Aubameyang  6/10 | Fluffed a terrific chance to open the scoring in the first half and put a header just wide after the break. Still think he should have started through the middle rather than on the wing.

Lacazette  6/10 | Missed a great early chance to make it 1-0. A more confident striker would have at least hit the target. Laca did work hard but he took too many touches to get his shot off at times today.

Subs:

Torreira  6/10 | Battled well against the Burnley midfield. Should have started in a game like this.

Willock  5/10 | No real impact after replacing Ozil in the final 20.

Nketiah  N/A | On too late
