Arsenal vs Liege preview | Latest team news, Bellerin & Ozil to start + prediction
Arsenal continue their Europa League campaign when we take on Standard Liege at the Emirates this evening.
We got the group stages off to the perfect start after beating Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 in Germany last month so we can take control of Group F with another victory over Standard Liege tonight.
The Belgians beat Vitoria SC in their opening game two weeks ago which means a win for Arsenal at the Emirates will see us go three points clear at the top of the table and be one step closer to qualification to the knockouts.
Arsenal head into the game following a 1-1 draw at Manchester United on Monday night which took us back into the top four of the table. However, our form in the league has been pretty poor lately with just one win from our last five games and our best performances have come in the cups when the reserves/kids have played so let’s hope for another exciting game tonight.
Team News
Alexandre Lacazette remains unavailable as he continues to overcome an ankle injury while Emile Smith Rowe is out due to concussion but otherwise we have no other injury concerns.
Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney will step-up their recoveries with another run out tonight while Rob Holding should also feature after making his return from a knee injury recently.
Emery will rotate his squad ahead of Sunday’s clash with Bournemouth with the likes of Sokratis, David Luiz, Granit Xhaka, Matteo Guendouzi and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang all expected to be rested.
Preferred line-up
I hope we see Bellerin and Tierney start tonight while I’d also like to see Calum Chambers starting alongside Holding in the back four. I would start Lucas Torreira in the holding role along with Joe Willock which would allow Mesut Ozil to play in his best position behind the striker.
Gabriel Martinelli deserves another chance to impress after scoring twice in the League Cup last week while Dani Ceballos could start out wide as he’s played there for Spain before. This would be my line-up:
Score prediction
Much depends on the kind of team Emery puts out but assuming he makes wholesale changes then we should see a decent game tonight. Liege will come to frustrate Arsenal and make life difficult for us as they’d love to take home a positive result. However, we should still have too much quality for them in the end. I don’t think it will be a rout by any means by I’m backing a 2-0 Arsenal win.
Arsenal 2-0 Standard Liege
