It’s a make or break season for the Gunners. Unai Emery invested more than £100 million during the summer transfer window. His main objective is to get Arsenal competing with the best teams in Europe once again.

The Spaniard led Arsenal to the Europa League final last year, but they were eventually beaten by Chelsea in Baku. Despite that, the Gunners can take plenty of positives from last season’s performances. Emery needs to build on the foundations he laid during the 18/19 campaign.

Football tipsters believe that the Gunners can qualify for the Champions League this season however, is that enough for a club of Arsenal’s stature? Today, we’ll take a look at some of their key players and analyze whether or not they can compete with the likes of Liverpool and Man City.

Key Men

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang– The Gabon international is Arsenal’s biggest asset. Aubameyang was the joint winner of the Premier League Golden Boot last season after scoring the same amount of goals as Mo Salah and Sadio Mane. What’s more, he has all the key attributes of a modern-day forward. If the rest of the team can create chances, this man will put them away. If Arsenal want to compete for the Champions League spots, he’ll be central to their success.

Alexandre Lacazette– Lacazette and Aubameyang have an incredible partnership. The two players have a mutual understanding and complement each other perfectly. The Frenchman was also voted as the club’s player of the season last year by the Arsenal faithful. He’s an integral part of this team and one of the best forwards in the EPL.

Nicolas Pépé – Arsenal’s club-record signing has made a fantastic start at the Emirates. The Ivorian forward scored 22 goals and picked up 11 assists in Ligue 1 last season. What’s more, he was named in the UNFP Team of the Year. The 24-year-old looks like he’s ready to set the Premier League alight. We believe that he can lead the Gunners back to the Champions League alongside Lacazette and Aubameyang.

Problem Areas

Arsenal has one of the best attacks in the Premier League, there’s no doubt about that. However, their defensive frailties are clear for everyone to see. Emery did add David Luiz and Kieran Tierney over the summer, but they still look short at the back. Tierney is yet to make an appearance for the club since he joined from Celtic for £25 million in August.

Final Thought

Can Arsenal compete for major honours this season? Yes, we certainly think so. The Premier League title is probably just out of their grasp. Man City and Liverpool look head and shoulders above the rest of the teams at the moment. However, we can see Emery’s men winning the FA Cup or Europa League.

The main goal is to secure Champions League football at the end of the season. Arsenal will score plenty of goals, there’s no doubt about that. If they can sort out their defensive problems, we’re backing them to finish in the top four.
