Sky Sports: Arsenal close to sealing exciting double swoop

By on July 17, 2019

According to Sky Sports News, Arsenal are closing-in on deals to sign Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos and Saint-Etienne centre-back William Saliba.

Unai Emery has been working hard trying to strengthen his squad this summer and the Arsenal coach is needing to bring in another midfielder to replace Aaron Ramsey following his free transfer move to Juventus.

Ceballos has emerged as a prime target recently and AS reported earlier this week that Emery has convinced the Spanish U21 international to snub rival interest from Tottenham in favour of a move to the Emirates.

Sky Sports now claim Arsenal are ‘increasingly hopeful’ of getting a season long loan deal wrapped-up with Madrid after Zinedine Zidane made it clear the 22-year-old isn’t part of his first team plans next season.

Ceballos would be an excellent signing for Arsenal if we could get this proposed deal over the line – although I hope we manage to get an option to buy clause inserted into his contract as it would be great to sign him on a permanent basis if things work out next year.

Arsenal have also been heavily linked with Saliba all summer and Sky Sports sources claim we are now on the verge of agreeing a deal with Saint-Etienne to sign the highly-rated defender. Many online gambling sites are now refusing to take any more bets on Saliba moving to Arsenal, which is a sure way to determine that a deal is close to completion.

The report says we’re expected to fend off competition from Tottenham once again to land Saliba with the centre-back preferring a move to Arsenal and we’ve agreed to let him head back on loan to Saint-Etienne as part of the deal.

Saliba is one of the most talented young defenders in French football and he’s already represented his country and U19 level so the 18-year-old should be an excellent long-term addition to the squad.

He’ll probably be viewed as a replacement for Koscielny and while we’d ideally have the player available for next season, Saint-Etienne refused to do business unless Saliba stayed in France for another year so it’s a small price to pay to land the talented youngster.

The Guardian claim Arsenal will pay around £27m for his signature but we’ll pay his fee over installments so it shouldn’t affect Emery’s transfer budget this summer too much.

So it looks like Arsenal are closing-in on a exciting double swoop and I think it will be great business if we can land Ceballos and Saliba over the coming days.
