Arsenal offer Spanish star £135k-a-week deal after submitting formal £29m bid

By on July 7, 2019

According to Sport, Arsenal have submitted a £29m offer for Lucas Vazquez and are trying to lure the Real Madrid attacker with a contract worth approximately £135,000-a-week.

Gunners boss Unai Emery is desperately trying to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season and a winger is on the agenda as we have a distinct lack of natural width in our ranks right now.

Wilfried Zaha and Ryan Fraser have been strongly linked in recent weeks but we’re struggling to agree deals with Crystal Palace or Bournemouth so it looks like the Arsenal bosses are eyeing an alternative target.

Spanish publication Sport claims Arsenal are showing a keen interest in signing Lucas Vazquez and have now tabled an opening offer worth around £29m [€32m] – which is €8m short of Madrid’s €40m valuation.

The report says negotiations are on-going between the two clubs but Madrid are actively trying to sell the Spanish international after splashing out big money on attacking talent like Eden Hazard, Rodrygo and Luka Jovic this summer.

Sport claims Vazquez is being chased by a host of European clubs such as Bayern Munich, PSG and Inter Milan but he’s open to joining Arsenal as we’ve offered to double his current salary to around £135,000-a-week [€8m per season].

The publication suggests that we’re in pole position to secure a deal after being the first club to submit a formal offer but it remains to be seen whether the likes of Bayern or PSG will step-up their interest with rival offers over the coming days.

Vazquez is predominantly a right winger but he can play on either flank so he’d be a useful addition to the squad if we could get a deal agreed, however, I don’t think he’s in the same bracket as Zaha.

The 28-year-old has never really established himself as a top attacker at the Bernabeu and we have no idea how he’d settle in England. Obviously a deal appeals to Arsenal as Vazquez would be a lot cheaper than Zaha, but I think it’s worth pushing the boat out for the Palace winger.
