3 players Arsenal should sign for £100m to make top 4 next season

By on July 4, 2019

It’s been a frustrating summer so far for Arsenal fans as Unai Emery is yet to make a major signing. However, having failed to qualify for the Champions League, the boss knows he needs to strengthen his squad if we’re to be challenging for the top four next season.

Arsenal are 13/8 sixth favourites to claim a top 4 place next year with most bookmakers. They are decent odds considering how close we came last season but if we use a betin promo code then we can place a risk free bet, making the wager even more appealing. However, for me to be confident the bet will come in, Arsenal need to get busy in the transfer market.

We desperately need to strengthen our defence after conceding 70 goals in all competitions last season while a pacey winger should also be on Emery’s agenda. We were led to believe that Emery has just £45m to spend this summer but Sky Sports claim we have upwards of £70m, plus money from any player sales, to spend so we should have around £100m.

Here are 3 players I think Arsenal should spend the money on:

Kieran Tierney

The Celtic left-back has been outstanding since breaking into the first team four years ago and he’d be a huge upgrade on our current options. Nacho Monreal has been a dependable defender for us but he’s 33 and his best days are certainly behind him.

Sead Kolasinac was ahead of the Spaniard in Emery’s pecking order last season and the Bosnian international was excellent going forward when deployed as a wing-back. However, he is poor defensively – especially when played at left-back – so we need an upgrade.

Tierney would be ideal as he’s the perfect mix of defensive solidity combined with a threat going forward. He has energy to burn and will get up and down the left flank all game so I think he’d be an excellent addition.

There’s reports that we’ll submit an improved £22m bid for the 22-year-old and I think that would be a great piece of business if we can get a deal agreed.

Samuel Umtiti

The French centre-back has fallen out-of-favour at Barcelona and rumour has it he’s available for transfer this summer. Arsenal were strongly linked at the start of the summer but were reportedly put off by his £53m valuation.

Sky Sports claim Arsenal are willing to spend up to £70m to sign Wilfred Zaha but I’d rather we spent less on a winger and put the majority of our budget into signing a top class centre-back, and Umtiti would be an excellent addition.

The 25-year-old is coming into his peak years and has all the ability to be a world class centre-back, as long as he can stay fit. Laurent Koscielny is coming towards the end of his career so we need a long-term replacement and Umtiti would be my pick. Plus, he’d be a huge improvement on Shkodran Mustafi!

Hakim Ziyech

As I said above, I would forget spending £70m on Zaha as a centre-back should be the priority and there is much better value to be had in the attackers market. Ziyech is available for just £25m due to a buyout clause in his contract and he would be an absolute steal at that price.

The Moroccan international has just come off the back of an excellent season with Ajax where he contributed 21 goals and 24 assists to help them to a domestic double and they also came within seconds of reaching the Champions League final.

Ziyech is left-footed but he can play on either wing while he’s also comfortable playing in the middle of the pitch as a playmaker so his versatility would make him a very useful asset for Emery to have at his disposal.

This trio would cost around £100m but they would be well worth the money as we’d strengthen three key areas of the pitch and I think we’d have a side strong enough to challenge for third place next season if we could sign Tierney, Umtiti and Ziyech this summer.
