Bid submitted: Arsenal hoping to agree deal after tabling £25m offer

By on July 1, 2019

According to the Sunday Post via The Sun, Arsenal are hoping to finally agree a deal to sign Kieran Tierney after submitting an improved offer worth £20m up front with a further £5m in add ons.

We’ve reportedly been in talks with Celtic to sign the left-back for several weeks after Unai Emery identified Tierney as the man to improve our options at left-back ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Arsenal’s defence has been a weak point for some time and Emery was unable to turn things around after replacing Arsene Wenger last summer as we still conceded 51 goals in our 38 league games last season.

The Spaniard doesn’t seem to fancy Nacho Monreal at left-back as the 33-year-old spent most of his time playing in a back three and while Sead Kolasinac impressed going forward at left wing-back, the Bosnian struggled defensively when played in a back four.

So Emery needs an all-rounder who’s solid defensively, dangerous going forward, and can play both left-back and left wing-back, and it seems Tierney has been identified as the player for the job.

A deal hasn’t been easy to secure as Football Scotland claimed last week that Arsenal saw a second offer worth £17.5m plus £7.5m in add-ons knocked back by Celtic after they rejected our opening £15m bid.

However, the Sunday Post, via the Sun, claims Arsenal’s third offer of £20m up front plus £5m in add-ons is closer to Celtic’s asking price and it’s now being considered by their bosses. The report says we could even throw in Carl Jenkinson so seal the deal.

The newspaper suggests Tierney has been granted permission to leave Celtic’s pre-season training camp in Austria in order to return to the UK ahead of a proposed move to Arsenal.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon claims Tierney has flown back to Glasgow to continue his rehab from a hernia operation but it seems a little coincidental to me so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s all linked with Arsenal’s latest offer.

Let’s see what happens over the next couple of days but I think Tierney would be an excellent signing if we could get a deal over the line as he’s been one of the best players in Scottish football for the past few years.

The 22-year-old is a boyhood Celtic fan and came through their youth system but the report says he’d be keen to join Arsenal if a deal can be agreed so let’s hope we can find a breakthrough soon.
