29-year-old attacker demands Arsenal move – Ornstein has his say on deal
According to reports in Italy via the Express, Ivan Perisic has demanded Inter Milan let him join Arsenal on loan but David Ornstein says the proposed deal is OFF.
Perisic has been touted as a prime transfer target in recent weeks with the BBC reporting over the weekend that Arsenal had opened talks with Inter Milan over an initial loan deal ahead of a potential £35m permanent switch in the summer.
The 29-year-old was dropped for the 1-0 defeat to Torino on Sunday after handing in a transfer request and Perisic has been forced to train away from the main Inter squad this week.
Negotiations stalled after Inter made it clear they wanted to either sell now or have an obligation to buy clause included in any loan deal and Arsenal turned their attention to trying to sign Yannick Carrasco instead.
However, with a deal for the Belgian international seemingly dead, the Express suggest that Arsenal are still hoping to land Perisic and the player hasn’t given up hope of forcing a move before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm tonight.
The newspaper cites a report from Bolognanews that claims Perisic has demanded Inter chiefs allow him to join Arsenal on loan and boss Luciano Spalletti is willing to sanction the move as long as a replacement is found.
However, BBC journalist David Ornstein has offered his own update on the deal and he claims that the proposed move for Perisic is off after Inter cancelled negotiations on Wednesday. He tweeted:
Perisic to Arsenal off – #Inter ended all player talks yesterday, #AFC attempts to structure loan + option (+ penalty fee if option not taken) of no interest.
So it seems there are differing views over where the deal is right now, but Ornstein is well respected and the chances are he’s got the inside scoop from Arsenal on this deal.
Obviously things can change quickly and Inter may change their stance over the coming hours but as it stands it seems highly unlikely that Arsenal will be signing Perisic.

With the Carrasco deal also reportedly off, Paris Saint-Germain’s Christopher Nkunku may be our only remaining hope of bringing in another player following the arrival of Denis Suarez.
