Emery in talks with agent as Arsenal look to sign Italian midfielder

By on January 17, 2019

According to Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira, Arsenal have held talks with the agent of Nicolo Zaniolo and are keen to sign the Roma midfielder ahead of next season.

Unai Emery is still rebuilding the squad he inherited from Arsene Wenger last summer and the club are hoping to strengthen this month to help boost our hopes of finishing in the top four.

However, the boss has admitted he’s only able to sign loan players in January so any permanent transfers will have to wait until the end of the season and it seems the club are already planning ahead for the summer.

Arsenal will lose Aaron Ramsey at the end of the season as the Welsh international is expected to join Juventus on a free transfer when his contract expires in June so Emery is on the look out for a replacement.

Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira has claimed Arsenal are showing a keen interest in signing Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo and have already started putting the ball in motion over a move.

The Italian journalist claims that Emery and Arsenal director of football Raul Sanllehi have held talks with Zaniolo’s agent, Claudio Vigorelli, about a potential switch to north London in the summer.

However, Roma are reluctant to lose the 19-year-old – who only joined the club from Inter Milan last summer – and are hoping to resist interest from Arsenal to tie Zaniolo down to a long-term contract.

Schira tweeted:

“Arsenal is interested in Nicolo #Zaniolo for the next season. Emery and Sanllehi have talked with his agent Claudio Vigorelli, but #Roma wants to renew him until 2024.”

Zaniolo has forced his way in to Eusebio Di Francesco’s starting eleven in recent months and has been virtually ever-resent since the start of November having featured in all 13 of Roma’s games.

The teenager has already represented Italy at U21 level and is tipped for a bright future in the game so he’d be an exciting addition to the squad if Arsenal were able to lure him to the Emirates.
