Brazilian midfielder could join Arsenal, offer already made to player – reports

By on January 4, 2019

According to reports via the Mirror, Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira could join Arsenal on a free transfer this summer after we put forward a formal offer to the player.

Pereira joined the United youth team from PSV Eindhoven in 2011 but has struggled to establish himself in the first team set-up since making his debut over four years ago.

The 23-year-old hoped the departure of Jose Mourinho last month would open-up more opportunities for him but Pereira has played just 17 minutes of football under new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer so far.

With his contract due to expire at the end of the season, the Brazilian midfielder’s future at Old Trafford is in serious doubt and he’s no closer to signing an extension at the Manchester giants.

The Mirror are reporting that Arsenal are being strongly linked with a move for Pereira and suggest that midfielder could complete a free transfer move to the Emirates if we fend off competition from Valencia.

Pereira spent last season on loan at the Mestalla and Valencia’s president Jose Carlos Peres has confirmed [via the Sun] the club are looking to re-sign the player either in January or at the end of the season.

However, the Mirror are citing a report from Esporte UOL that claims Arsenal are among the clubs to have put forward a formal proposal to Pereira as Unai Emery looks to pull off a free transfer swoop ahead of the summer.

Foreign clubs like Valencia can get Pereira to sign an official pre-contract agreement this month while Arsenal would have to wait until his United contract expires at the end of June, so that could put the Spaniard’s in pole position.

It’s going to be interesting to see what the player does but a move away from Man Utd looks likely and I think he’d be a decent addition for Arsenal if we could win the race for his signature.

Pereira is a talented central midfielder who can also play out on the wings so he’d give us a versatile attacking option and he could be viewed as a potential replacement for Aaron Ramsey – who’s likely to join Juventus on a free transfer.

I think we should solve our mean problems first which is defence and a good playmaker.
