[Player Ratings] Arsenal 0-2 Tottenham: Mkhitaryan & Koscielny poor for Gunners

By on December 19, 2018

It was a tale of missed chances as Arsenal crashed out of the Carabao Cup thanks to a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Tottenham this evening.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan missed a golden chance to open the scoring early on when he saw his effort saved when clear through and it proved the pivotal moment as Spurs went on to win thanks to goals from Hueng-min Son and Dele Alli.

Here are my ratings:

Cech   6/10 | Easily beaten for both goals and poor distribution hampered Arsenal at times.

Maitland-Niles   6/10 | Got in to some great positions down the right wing but final ball was very poor.

Sokratis   6/10 | Costly slip lead to the first goal and didn’t cover for Koscielny for the second goal but was otherwise solid.

Xhaka   5.5/10 | This experiment has failed miserably. Xhaka clearly isn’t comfortable at centre-back but he did his best tonight.

Monreal   6/10 | Solid enough at the back but offered little going forward to help Arsenal’s attacking play.

Torreira   6/10 | Looks tired. I called for him to be rested tonight but sadly he wasn’t. Needs a breather soon or we risk burning him out.

Guendouzi   6/10 | Was always keen to get on the ball and kept it moving. Not incisive enough though.

Mkhitaryan   5/10 | Missed a HUGE chance at 0-0 when he was clean through only to be denied by Gazzaniga. Subbed at half time with a knock.

Ramsey   7/10 | Went close with a superb volley just before half time and linked up well with Miki early on. One of Arsenal’s better performers.

Iwobi   7/10 | Unlucky to be subbed early in the second half as he was at least showing some creativity and caused Spurs some problems. His final ball wasn’t great though.

Aubameyang   6/10 | Struggled to get in to the game as he was starved of service. Had to drop deep just to get on the ball.

Subs:

Koscielny   5/10 | Another error for the second goal. Dropped off Kane then played Alli onside. Looks so rusty.

Lacazette    6.5/10 | No idea why he didn’t start. Hit the post just minutes after Spurs made it 2-0.

Nketiah   6/10 | Positive cameo from the youngster.

Arsenal looked tired tonight and it wasn’t a good performance but things would have been a lot different had Mkhitaryan put away that early chance. We must respond against Burnley on Saturday.
