Arsenal outcast and 5 youngsters to feature vs Vorskla as Emery rests key men for Spurs

By on November 27, 2018

According to Football London, Arsenal outcast Carl Jenkinson could join five young guns in featuring against FC Vorskla on Thursday as Unai Emery rests his key men ahead of Tottenham.

Jenkinson has been frozen out at Arsenal over the past few seasons but made his first appearance in two years during our League Cup win over Blackpool at the end of October and started against Sporting Lisbon last time out in the Europa League.

With Stephan Lichtsteiner currently on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, Emery is highly unlikely to risk Hector Bellerin – especially with huge league games against Tottenham and Manchester United coming up over the next week – so Jenks is set for a run-out at right-back against Vorskla.

Emery has chosen strong squads in the Europa League so far this season but with a nightmare journey to freezing Ukraine awaiting us on Thursday and qualification to the knockout stages already secured, the boss is expected to leave his big guns at home.

That will open the door for some of the youngsters and Football London suggests that Joe Willock, Eddie Nketiah, Emile Smith Rowe and Julio Pleguezuelo will all feature against Vorskla on Thursday night.

The quartet were left out of Freddie Ljungberg’s U23 squad for the defeat to Derby on Monday night so they are expected to travel to Ukraine with the first team for our penultimate Europa League group game.

The report says Ainsley Maitland-Niles is also expected to play on Thursday after recently recovering from a fractured leg so we could see the 21-year-old start at left-back against Vorskla as Nacho Monreal is injured so Sead Kolasinac needs a rest.

A win will secure top spot with a game to spare – which would obviously be nice – but the priority has to be the Tottenham and Man Utd games so it makes perfect sense to leave all our key players at home for the Europa League tie.
