Mkhitaryan & Ramsey axed as Emery rings the changes | Arsenal’s best XI to face Wolves
Arsenal welcome Wolves to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon looking for a win to keep in touch at the top of the table. This is the line-up I’d like Unai Emery to select…
Goalkeeper: Leno
Petr Cech was back in goal on Thursday night and wasn’t really called in to action but Bernd Leno has earned his place as our number one so I’d like to see the German stopper recalled tomorrow afternoon.
Defence: Bellerin, Holding, Sokratis, Kolasinac
Sokratis is fit again and put-in a solid display against Sporting Lisbon in midweek so hopefully he’ll keep his place in the middle of defence. No doubt Emery will recall Shkodran Mustafi after he was rested on Thursday night but I’d rather see Rob Holding keeping his place alongside Sokratis at the back tomorrow.
Hector Bellerin will obviously be recalled at right-back after being rested on Thursday and it looks like Stephan Lichtsteiner is facing a spell out after picking up a hamstring injury against Sporting. Nacho Monreal is close to being available again after recovering from his own hamstring complaint but there’s no point rushing him back so Sead Kolasinac should be the man to come in for Carl Jenkinson at left-back.
Midfield: Torreira, Xhaka
I was disappointed by Aaron Ramsey’s performance against Sporting Lisbon. I was hoping he would take the game by the scruff of the neck and show he’s fighting to force his way in to Emery’s plans but he was out of sorts and doesn’t deserve to start right now.
Matteo Guendouzi did put in another impressive display and he’s going to be a star of the future but right now Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka are forming an exciting partnership so they should be recalled tomorrow.
Attack: Aubameyang, Ozil, Iwobi, Lacazette
Obviously the big news from Thursday’s game was the devastating injury to Danny Welbeck and it looks like he’ll be facing a race against time to play again this season if, as suspected, he’s broken his ankle.
Alexandre Lacazette will come in to replace Welbeck up front after being rested in midweek and the Frenchman should be full of confidence after his fine goal against Liverpool last weekend.
Hopefully Alex Iwobi keeps his place in attack and I think he’s far more useful from the left wing. Henrikh Mkhitaryan is out of form right now and was disappointing again on Thursday so I’d drop him to the bench.
That would mean Pierre-Emerick starts in attack and while I think he’s better through the middle, the Gabon international will have to settle for a place on the wing as Lacazette has to start.
The final place will obviously go to Mesut Ozil, who’ll be recalled after being rested in midweek. Emile Smith Rowe has bags of potential and did well again on Thursday night but he’ll make way tomorrow.
Here is the side I hope we’ll see:
