[Photos] Arsenal star steps-up injury return but duo miss training ahead of Leicester
Laurent Koscielny has continued to step-up his recovery from Achilles surgery but Sokratis and Petr Cech failed to train on Sunday ahead of the visit of Leicester City.
Koscielny is yet to feature for Arsenal so far this season after rupturing his Achilles during our Europa League semi-final second leg defeat to Atletico Madrid last campaign but he’s been edging closer to making his comeback in recent weeks.
The Frenchman joined in with some aspects of full first team training last week and stepped-up his workload with the rest of the squad on the pitches at London Colney on Sunday afternoon.
Koscielny still isn’t expected to be available for selection until some time in November but it’s great to see him back training again and his return will come as a huge boost next month.
However, it wasn’t all positive news as Sokratis looks set to miss the Leicester game tomorrow night after failing to take part in training today. The centre-back suffered an ankle injury during the international break and Unai Emery confirmed late last week that the Greek international was a major doubt to face Leicester.
It looks like he’s lost his race to prove his fitness but let’s hope Sokratis is back soon as the 30-year-old has been an excellent signing for the club since joining Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
Cech has been on the sidelines since suffering a hamstring injury against Watford three weeks ago and the Czech legend is also set to miss the visit of Leicester as he wasn’t among the players snapped in training at London Colney today.
Bernd Leno will therefore continue between the sticks against the Foxes but we’ll have to wait and see whether Cech is able to make his return for the Europa League clash with Sporting Lisbon next Thursday.
