Arsenal team news update: latest on Ozil, Koscielny, AMN, Welbeck & Cech
It may be the international break but Arsenal have still provided a team news update with the vert latest on the fitness of Mesut Ozil, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Danny Welbeck, Petr Cech, Dinos Mavropanos and Laurent Koscielny.
Ozil sat out the 5-1 win over Fulham last weekend after complaining of a back spasm on the eve of the game following his 5,000-mile round trip to Azerbaijan to make a late appearance during our Europa League win over Qarabag.
However, Arsenal’s club doctors have now confirmed that Mesut is back in full training so the German playmaker should be fit and available for selection when Leicester City arrive at the Emirates a week on Monday. Although, should he get an immediate recall considering our performance at Fulham without him?
There is also a positive update on Maitland-Niles as the versatile midfielder has returned to full training after making a swift recovery from a fractured fibula which he picked up against Man City at the start of the season. No doubt it will take him a little while to get back up to speed but it’s great to see AMN fit again.
Welbeck withdrew from the latest England squad after picking up a minor hamstring complaint and Arsenal have confirmed the forward will be assessed ahead of the Leicester game on the 22nd. It’s still ten days away so hopefully Welbeck has plenty of time to recover.
We’ve also had an update on Cech and the goalkeeper could make his return to action against the Foxes. Cech picked up a hamstring injury against Watford at the end of September but it looks like he has a chance of being fit to return after the international break.
Koscielny is still working his way back to full fitness having undergone Achilles surgery towards the end of last season and the centre-back is due to resume full training in November. His return will be a huge boost for the club.
The final update is on Mavropanos and the young defender is expected to return to full training at the end of this month as he looks to recover from a groin injury that’s hampered him recently.
