[Photos] Torreira battles with Sokratis in training as Arsenal prepare for Chelsea trip
The Arsenal players looked in high spirits at London Colney today as we prepared for Saturday evening’s trip to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea.
Big-money summer signing Lucas Torreira will be hoping to make his full debut after coming off the bench during the opening weekend defeat to Manchester City.
The Uruguayan international wasn’t fit enough to start against the defending champions following his late arrival to pre-season training but he was getting stuck in today as he battled Sokratis for the ball during a practice match.
It will be interesting to see who makes way if Torreira does start against Chelsea but my guess is Matteo Guendouzi will be the man to drop out despite his encouraging performance last weekend.
Unai Emery has confirmed Petr Cech will keep his place in goal ahead of Bernd Leno but Alexandre Lacazette will no doubt have been keen to impress in training as he looks to get a recall tomorrow night.
Lacazette caused City problems after coming off the bench and he looks to have a good understanding with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang so hopefully we see them starting together in attack this weekend.
However, there won’t be any sign of Ainsley Maitland-Niles as the young midfielder has been ruled out for two months with a fractured leg.
