From Germany: Arsenal could hijack Man Utd’s move with swoop to sign £45m star
According to Kicker, Arsenal could hijack Man Utd’s attempts to sign German star Jerome Boateng as Bayern Munich prepare to cash-in on the £45m-rated defender this summer.
Unai Emery has already strengthened his defence after snapping-up Stephan Lichtsteiner and Sokratis this summer but Arsenal are back in the market for another centre-back after agreeing to loan Calum Chambers to Fulham.
We’ve been strongly linked with Besiktas star Domagoj Vida today but it seems Emery may have a slightly more ambitious target in mind as Kicker claim Arsenal have joined the race to sign Boateng.
The German international is set to leave Bayern after deciding it’s time for a new challenge and the German publication says Man Utd are in talks over a potential £45m deal while PSG are also understood to be keen.
However, Kicker says that Arsenal could yet make an attempt to hijack United’s proposed move during the closing stages of the window with the Manchester club also being linked with Toby Alderweireld and Harry Maguire.
If I had a straight choice between signing Vida for £25m or Boateng for £45m it would be the German all day long. Both players are 29-years-old but Boateng has been one of the best defenders in the world over the past few years.
The former Man City defender has won numerous trophies including 6 Bundesliga titles and the Champions League while he’s also won the World Cup with Germany so I’d love to see us making a statement and bringing him to the Emirates.

However, if we’re up against United and PSG then I don’t give us much chance of pulling it off as we simply can not match the kind of money they’ll put on the table so Vida looks the more realistic of the two.
