Perfect signing seeks talks amid Arsenal interest, Mislintat in contact with player
According to Football London, Ousmane Dembele will hold talks with Barcelona about his future amid interest from Arsenal with Sven Mislintat in constant contact with the attacker.
Dembele struggled during his debut season at the Nou Camp following his £135m move from Borussia Dortmund last summer as he was hampered by a serious hamstring injury.
The 21-year-old failed to make an impact when he was fit as he made just a handful of starts under Ernesto Valverde and his place in the first team is now under even greater threat following the arrival of Malcom this summer.
Understandably, Dembele is concerned about his role at the club and Sport, via Football London, claim the French international and his agent will hold talks with Barca chiefs this week to discuss his future.
The uncertainty has alerted Arsenal as we’ve been strongly linked with a move for the attacker with TeamTalk reporting last week that Unai Emery sees Dembele as his ‘dream’ signing.
Football London also claim that head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is in constant contact with the Frenchman to keep up-to-sate on his situation having been a driving force behind his move to Dortmund two years ago.
If Barca make it clear to Dembele during their discussions this week that he won’t be a first team regular then the player could push for a move and it seems Arsenal are ready to pounce.
A permanent deal is unlikely as Barca would demand a huge fee but there have been suggestions that we could look to secure a loan move should Dembele come on the market.
The youngster enjoyed a superb relationship with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during their time at Dortmund and it would be sensational to see them reunited at the Emirates this summer.
I’ve said for months that we lack width in the squad after selling Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott in January and Dembele would be the perfect addition if we could somehow get a deal agreed.
