From France: Arsenal to launch £44m winger bid as Emery eyes 6th summer signing

By on July 17, 2018

According to reports in France via the Sun. Arsenal are ready to launch a £44m bid to sign Bayern Munich star Kingsley Coman as Unai Emery eyes his sixth summer signing.

Emery has focused his attention on strengthening our defensive set-up since replacing Arsene Wenger with our new boss bringing in a new goalkeeper, right-back, centre-back and defensive midfielder so far this summer.

Young French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has followed Bernd Leno, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Sokratis and Lucas Torreira through the door but it seems Emery is now ready to try and add to his attacking options before the window closes.

A new wide player is on the agenda and we’ve been linked with a number of names in recent weeks but the Sun are citing a report from BeIN Sports that claims Arsenal are ready to launch a £44m bid to sign Coman.

The 22-year-old was considered to be one of the most exciting young talents in the world when he came through the ranks at PSG before joining Juventus in 2014 but after struggling to adapt in Italy he joined Bayern on an initial two-year loan deal the following summer.

The French international has enjoyed his time in Germany having helped Bayern win three successive titles after making his move permanent last summer but his future at the Allianz Arena is being called in to question.

Coman spent a large part of last season on the sidelines with a serious ankle injury and it remains to be seen whether he’s in new boss Niko Kovac’s plans for the coming campaign.

It seems Arsenal are ready to test Bayern’s resolve to keep the winger by tabling a large £44m bid – if these reports are accurate – and they may be tempted to cash-in as that would provide them with a sizable profit on their investment.

I’ve said for some time that Arsenal need to buy a pacey winger as we lack any genuine width in the squad so Coman would be an excellent addition, but we’ll have to wait and see if we can get a deal agreed for the youngster.

I doubt Arsenal will spend that much unless they sell up to five deadwoods. I just hope the trio of Shkhdran Mustafi, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny are not touched. They deserve a second chance. Thankfully Alexandre of Unai Emery’s ‘5 Untouchables’; an excellent striker despite his somewhat hard season
