Arsenal battling to secure bargain signing of Brazilian winger – reports

By on July 17, 2018

According to reports in Italy via the Mirror, Arsenal are battling it out with Liverpool and Everton over the free transfer signing of Brazilian winger Bernard after he left Shakhtar Donetsk this summer.

Unai Emery has spent his time strengthening our defensive options since replacing Arsene Wenger with a new goalkeeper, right-back, centre-back and two defensive midfielders arriving in recent weeks.

However, the boss is now being tipped to turn his attention to the final third of the pitch as we need to add a winger to our ranks and Bernard is one of several names to have been linked with a move to the Emirates.

The Brazilian international – who has 14 caps for his country – is a free agent after letting his contract at Shakhtar Donetsk expire following five successful years in Ukraine that saw him provide 28 goals and 35 assists in his 157 appearances.

It seems Emery is keen to lure him to the Emirates as the Mirror are citing reports from Premium Sport that claims Arsenal are battling it out with Liverpool and Everton to snap-up the attacker on a free transfer.

The Italian outlet says Bernard has already rejected a move to Serie A as he has his heart set on playing in the Premier League so is expected to choose between Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton over the coming weeks.

The 25-year-old is predominantly a left winger but is comfortable playing anywhere across the attack so his versatility would be a useful asset if Arsenal manage to win the race for his signature.

Obviously Liverpool can offer him Champions League football but they’ve just signed Xhedran Shaqiri and already have Mo Salah and Sadio Mane on their books so he’d face stiff competition at Anfield.

At Arsenal, we have very little natural width in the squad so Bernard should find first team football easier to come by. Does that make us favourites? We’ll have to wait and see….
