Arsenal handed boost in bid to sign £44m World Cup star

By on July 13, 2018

According to the Express, Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of £44m winger Ante Rebic after Eintracht Frankfurt admitted they’re powerless to stop him joining a bigger club.

After already signing a goalkeeper, right-back, centre-back and two midfielders this summer, Unai Emery is reportedly now looking to bring in another attacker as we lacked width in the squad at times last season.

We sold Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez in January and the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Alex Iwobi, Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck were all deployed out wide at times but none are natural wingers.

So we need to add some width to the squad and Rebic has emerged as a target with German publication Bild, via the Express, claiming recently that Arsenal are among the clubs to have registered their interest in signing the attacker.

Our hopes of signing the Croatian international have been handed a boost as Frankfurt sporting director Fredi Bobic has now admitted they are powerless to stop him leaving for a top club.

Bobic says that although no formal offer has arrived for the 24-year-old yet, things can change quickly and they won’t be able to compete if a big European club comes in for Rebic.

Bobic is quoted as saying by the Express:

“I am very happy about the success of Ante Rebic with the Croatian national team,”

“The players and the coaching team are watching the World Cup games together in the training camp in the USA and are especially excited about Rebic.

“So far there are no offers available and we’re planning a steady season with Ante Rebic for the new season. Of course we know that a lot can happen when a big club makes an offer.

“We cannot compete economically with the big ones, but that’s nothing new.”

Rebic has enjoyed an impressive World Cup as he scored a superb goal during Croatia’s win over Argentina and has played a key role in helping his country reach the final where they’ll face France after beating England in midweek.

However, the Express claim Rebic is valued at around £44m, which could be a problem given Emery was only given a budget of around £50m and he’s spent most of it already on five new signings.

Not only that, but the report says Manchester United, Tottenham and Bayern Munich are all interested in Rebic so we’ll face stiff competition for his signature.
