French star to undergo medical with Arsenal on Monday ahead of £7m move
According to reports in France via the Mirror, Matteo Guendouzi is due to fly-in to London on Monday to undergo a medical and sign a five-year contract after Arsenal agreed a £7m deal with Lorient.
Unai Emery has already snapped-up goalkeeper Bernd Leno, centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos and right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner this summer and our new boss has now turned his attention to strengthening our midfield.
Lucas Torreira is widely expected to seal a £26m move from Sampdoria over the coming days but with Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla leaving the club, Emery is ready to bring in two central midfielders.
And it looks like we’re not hanging around in attempting to sign our targets as the Mirror are citing various reports coming out of France that claim Arsenal have now agreed a £7m deal with Lorient to buy Guendouzi.
The newspaper says the 19-year-old will travel to London on Monday to undergo his medical and terms over a five-year contract are also believed to have been agreed with the player.
The Mirror suggest that Guendouzi has been linked with the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham in the past but it looks like the teenager is set for a move to the Emirates.
Guendouzihas been with Lorient since joining the clubs youth system from PSG in 2014 and having broken in to the team as a box-to-box midfielder, the youngster excelled in the holding role last season.
The French Under-20 international is highly-rated and looks to have a bright future ahead of him so he’ll be an exciting addition for the future if we manage to get this deal over the line.

However, I wonder where this leaves Ainsley Maitland-Niles as the 20-year-old will be hoping to get more game-time in his preferred defensive midfield role under Emery so it’s interesting that we’re about to sign a player of similar age to compete with him and Torreira in the middle of the park.
