Arsenal set to sign 26-year-old star – personal terms & fee now agreed

By on June 13, 2018

According to various reports today, Arsenal are on the verge of signing a new goalkeeper after agreeing personal terms with Bernd Leno ahead of a move from Bayer Leverkusen.

New boss Unai Emery is wasting no time in trying to revamp the squad left behind by Arsene Wenger as we’ve already snapped Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer while we’re also being tipped to secure deals for centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos and midfielder Lucas Torreira.

However, a new goalkeeper is also on the agenda as Petr Cech is 36 and his form dipped dramatically last season with the Czech international making a number of costly mistakes. David Ospina has failed to prove he’s capable of being our regular keeper so a new number is desperately needed.

Leno has emerged as a prime target in recent weeks and the Mirror claim that we’re on the verge of signing the 26-year-old after he turned down Napoli’s advances in favour of a move to Arsenal.

The newspaper says Leno has made up his mind he wants to move to north London and his agents are confident a deal will be agreed while Arsenal are expected to meet his £22m release clause.

However, CalcioMercato go one further as they claim that Leno has now agreed personal terms with Arsenal and we’ve also agreed to pay Leverkusen a fee in the region of £20m-£22m for the German international stopper.

Let’s hope the Italian publication are ahead of the competition with this one as Leno would be a superb addition to the squad having developed in to one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the Bundesliga in recent years.

He kept 10 clean sheets in 33 games for Leverkusen last season and he’ll be a big upgrade on Cech and Ospina so fingers crossed this proposed deal gets over the line without a hitch.

It could be a busy few days at the Emirates as reports claim we’re also on the verge of signing Torreira in a £26m deal from Sampdoria and the Uruguayan international midfielder would also be an excellent signing.
