Arsenal eyeing swoop for £22m midfielder as Emery looks to replace Cazorla

By on June 7, 2018

According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal have identified Roma star Lorenzo Pellegrini as a midfield target after going cold on Jean-Michael Seri.

Unai Emery needs to strengthen our squad in the middle of the park as Santi Cazorla has rejoined Villarreal after seeing his contract at the Emirates expire following an injury-plagued last two years.

Jack Wilshere is also being tipped to leave after failing to agree terms over a new deal while Aaron Ramsey could be sold if he doesn’t sign an extension to his contract – that has just one year left to run.

So it’s fair to say our midfield could be overhauled this summer and we’ve been strongly linked with Seri in recent months after he continued to impress for Nice last season.

However, the Evening Standard suggests that Arsenal are reluctant to spend £35m on the Ivory Coast international so we’ve cooled our interest leaving Chelsea as the front-runners to sign Seri this summer.

The newspaper says Emery has now turned his attention to Roma midfielder Pellegrini as his £22m release clause is much lower than Seri’s £35m asking price.

Pellegrini only joined Roma from Sassuolo last summer but he enjoyed an excellent debut season at the Stadio Olimpico and it seems he’s caught the attention of Arsenal chiefs.

The 21-year-old looks to have a bright future ahead of him and £22m could be an absolute steal in today’s market so I’d welcome the Italian international’s arrival if we bring him to North London.

However, Emery is still keeping his options open as the Evening Standard says Arsenal are also keen on Hoffenheim’s Kerem Demirbay so we’ll just have to wait and see who we end up going for.

I’m just pleased we’re being linked with midfielders as I’ve said for a long time that we need to freshen things up in the middle of the park so fingers crossed we land one of our key targets.
