Confirmed by agent: Arsenal in talks to sign £60m international star
According to the Metro, Jorginho’s agent has confirmed Arsenal are among the club to have held talks over a deal to sign the £60m-rated Napoli midfielder this summer.
Arsenal are reportedly close to announcing Mikel Arteta as our new manager with the former midfielder expected to replace Arsene Wenger following his exit from the club.
However, despite not having a boss at the reigns yet, Arsenal chiefs are still pushing ahead with our summer transfer business with head of recruitment Sven Mislintat leading the charge.
A new central midfielder is a priority as Jack Wilshere could leave for nothing after failing to agree terms over a new deal while Aaron Ramsey’s future is also in doubt as he has one year left on his contract and is showing no sign he’ll pen an extension.
We’ve been linked with a number of players in recent weeks but it looks like Jorginho is a prime target as his agent, Joao Santos, has confirmed Arsenal are among the clubs to have made contact to express an interest in signing the Napoli star.
However, we’ll face stiff competition as the agent says Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City have also been in touch about securing a deal for the £60m-rated [via the Metro] Italian international.
Santos is quoted as saying by the Metro:
‘I’m in Brazil, nobody called me from Naples, but English teams have called me, Liverpool, Manchester City, but also Arsenal and Chelsea,’
‘It depends on Napoli and sports director Giuntoli. Of course it is not difficult to find agreements with teams like these.
‘I don’t know if Maurizio Sarri’s possible exit would speed up Jorginho’s transfer, for Napoli it will be positive to capitalise on the offers then we will talk. ‘I don’t know if Jorginho’s future depends on Sarri’s future.’
Jorginho has been one of the best central midfielders in Serie A this season as he helped Maurizio Sarri’s side push Juventus all the way in the title race before falling at the final hurdle.

I think he’d be a superb addition to our squad but it’s going to be extremely difficult to win the race for his signature as City are believed to be in pole position and we can’t compete with the sort of money they can throw at him.

Arteta will only bring experiments to the club and we do not need that at this time in
the clubs history.
