Terms agreed: Experienced manager has contract in place with Arsenal
According to CalcioMercato, Carlo Ancelotti has a pre-contract agreement in place with Arsenal to become our next manager and he’s waiting for the go-ahead to complete the move.
Arsenal chiefs have been working on finding a replacement for Arsene Wenger since he announced he was leaving over three weeks ago and he took charge of his final game last Sunday.
Mikel Arteta has emerged as the firm favourite for the position with some bookmakers no longer taking bets on the Spaniard being named as Arsenal’s next manager following widespread reports he’s the board’s No.1 choice.
It’s believed Ivan Gazidis is keen to appoint a younger coach rather than an experienced manager but a final decision is yet to be made as talks are on-going within the hierarchy.
It seems there is still an experienced name in the frame as CalcioMercato are citing a report from Tuttosport that claims Carlo Ancelotti has a pre-contract agreement in place with Arsenal.
The Italian outlet says Ancelotti told Aurelio De Laurentiis about the agreement after the Napoli president contacted the 58-year-old about taking over at the Serie A club should Maurizzio Sarri leave for Chelsea.
Ancelotti supposedly informed De Laurentiis that he couldn’t commit to any other job as he has a pre-contract deal in place with Arsenal and is waiting for us to give him the go-ahead.
If true, it seems Arsenal have lined-up their ducks and are just waiting to fire on the chosen candidate. I’m sure we have similar agreements in place with at least one more boss and it’s just a matter of choosing the best man for the job.
If I had to guess, I’d say the board have lined-up Ancelotti if we decide to go with an experienced manager while Arteta will be the choice if we opt for a younger man to take us forward.
The rumours suggest that Gazidis is leaning towards going with Arteta but we shouldn’t rule out the likes of Ancelotti until Mikel is standing on Arsenal.com wearing his Arsenal suit [again].
