Arsenal ready to agree £35m deal as Mislintat closes-in on first summer signing

By on May 15, 2018

According to the Telegraph, Arsenal are ready to agree a £35m deal to sign Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu as Sven Mislintat prepares to kick-start our summer overhaul.

We still don’t know for certain who’ll be replacing Arsene Wenger but all signs are pointing to Mikel Arteta being the man to take over from the long-serving Frenchman.

The Telegraph claim that the interview process has been completed and the club are leaning towards hiring a young coach in the mould of Arteta rather than an experienced manager who’ll want more control.

The newspaper says despite the uncertainty surrounding the managerial situation, Arsenal are still pressing ahead with their pursuit of Soyuncu with Mislintat heading up the negotiations.

Our new head of recruitment has been tasked with overseeing our summer transfer activity and a new centre-back is a priority as we desperately need to solve our leaky defence.

Per Mertesacker has retired from football and moved in to a coaching role while Laurent Koscielny won’t be the same player when he returns from a six-month lay off with an Achilles injury.

Soyuncu has emerged as a prime target and the Telegraph claim Arsenal chiefs are ready to agree a £35m deal to sign the Turkish international with their sources indicating he is destined for a move to the Emirates this summer.

The 21-year-old has developed in to one of the best young defenders in the Bundesliga since joining Freiburg from Altindoru in 2016 and he’s also now a regular in the Turkish national team.

He obviously has huge potential and this is the sort of signing I’d be expecting Arsenal to make this summer as I think we’ll be going for talented young players who can be coached under the new regime.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the club delays completing any deals until the new manager is in place but it looks like Soyuncu could be Arsenal’s first summer signing.
