“Sad day” – Piers Morgan, Ian Wright & David Seaman react to Wenger leaving Arsenal
Shock waves are still reverberating around the footballing world after Arsene Wenger announced his decision to leave Arsenal this summer.
The long-serving boss has been manager of this great club for almost 22 years since arriving as an unknown Frenchman in 1996 and he’s led us to some of the best times in the clubs history.
Three Premier League titles including the Invincibles, a record seven FA Cups, two doubles, a new stadium and 20 successive seasons in the Champions League during his 1228 games in charge is certainly an impressive haul.
However, fans grew tired in recent years and a growing number of supporters expressed their feelings by staying away from home games this season leading to speculation the end was coming.
Change was needed and Wenger announced this morning in a statement on Arsenal.com that he will leave the club at the end of the season.
Obviously there has been plenty of reaction to the news today and life-long Arsenal fan Piers Morgan was quick to post a message on Twitter simply saying “Breaking: Wenger out” after he got his wish for Arsene to leave.
Former striker Ian Wright expressed his shock at the news of Wenger leaving while David Seaman said it’s a ‘sad day’ for the club but asked fans to give the Frenchman the send off he deserves with a hashtag #rememberthetrophies.
