Arsenal in talks to sign £30m star as Mislintat begins summer overhaul
According to a report by TeamTalk, Arsenal have opened talks with Freiburg over a possible £30m deal to sign highly-rated centre-back Caglar Soyuncu this summer.
Arsenal’s new head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has been tasked with heading-up a busy summer overhaul that’s expected to see plenty of changes at the Emirates.
A new centre-back is of primary importance as Per Mertesacker is set to retire while Laurent Koscielny has been hampered by an on-going Achilles injury and hasn’t looked himself this season.
The Daily Mail, via TeamTalk, claims that Mislintat has identified Soyuncu as our latest target having been impressed by the youngster during his time in Germany with Borussia Dortmund.
Soyuncu has developed in to one of the best young defenders in the Bundesliga since joining Freiburg from Altindoru in 2016 and he’s also now a regular in the Turkish national team.
It seems the 21-year-old’s potential has attracted interest from Arsenal as the newspaper says we’ve now opened transfer talks after scouts watched the youngster feature during Turkey’s 1-0 win over the Republic of Ireland last week.
Soyuncu is under contract until 2021 and the report says Frieburg want around £30m for his signature this summer, so we’d need to pay a huge fee to land the talented defender.
However, Arsenal aren’t the only club in the running as TeamTalk claim that Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Roma have all shown an interest in Soyuncu so we’ll face some serious competition.
Let’s see how things progress but it’s good to hear that Arsenal are being pro-active and are already holding transfer talks ahead of what’s going to be a busy summer in north London.
