Arsenal plotting swoop for £25m Bundesliga star

By on March 22, 2018

According to the Sun, Arsenal are eyeing a summer swoop for £25m-rated RB Leipzig keeper Peter Gulacsi as we look to bring in a new number one at the end of the season.

Arsene Wenger is under increasing pressure to freshen up the squad after a disappointing campaign and a new goalkeeper is expected to be high on the agenda.

Petr Cech turns 36 in May and has endured a tough season having made several high profile errors while David Ospina hasn’t done enough to convince that he’s the answer to our problems.

A number of goalkeepers have been linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks but the Sun claim that Arsenal chiefs have now made Gulacsi a prime target.

The 27-year-old has been outstanding for Leipzig since joining the club in 2015 and he was rated as the best keeper in the Bundesliga during the first half of the season.

Gulacsi is contracted to Leipzig until 2022 but the newspaper report says Arsenal are eyeing a summer swoop and could get a deal agreed at around £25m for the 6ft 3in stopper.

The Hungarian international was on Liverpool’s books as a youngster and spent five years on Merseyside between 2008 and 2013 so he has the added bonus of qualifying as a home grown player.

Leipzig are currently sixth in the Bundesliga table so are in danger of missing out on the Champions League and Gulacsi could be one of a number of stars who push for a move if they fail to finish in the top four.

Obviously Arsenal are also struggling to qualify for Europe’s top competition unless we win the Europa League but Gulacsi may be tempted by a move to the Emirates as we’ll give him a significant pay rise and let’s face it, we’re a much bigger club than Leipzig.

However, we aren’t the only English club in the running as the Sun claims Chelsea are also interested in Gulacsi as they line-up potential replacements for Real Madrid target Thibaut Courtois, so we’ll have a fight on our hands.
