Arsenal handed major boost in pursuit of Brazilian attacker

By on March 17, 2018

According to the Mirror, Arsenal have received a boost in their pursuit of Bordeaux attacker Malcom after Bayern Munich cooled their interest in signing the player this summer.

Malcom was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates throughout the winter window with widespread reports suggesting we had met with the players agent in London to discuss a potential deal.

The 20-year-old had caught Arsene Wenger’s eye after developing in to one of the most exciting young wingers in European football having provided 8 goals and 7 assists so far this season.

The Mirror reported earlier this month that Arsenal are ready to renew their interest in signing Malcom this summer after seeing a £37.5m offer rejected in January.

It looked like we’d face stiff competition from Bayern Munich after they reportedly joined the chase, however, the Mirror are now citing reports from Sport Bild that claim the Bundesliga champions have cooled their interest.

It means Arsenal are now one of the front runners again for Malcom’s signature although we could yet face competition from Tottenham as they were also linked with the youngster in January.

I’ve said for some time that we need to add some width to our squad this summer and Malcom would be an excellent addition as although he’s predominantly a right winger, he can play on either side of the attack.

It looks like the Brazilian is certain to leave Bordeaux at the end of the season and I no doubt Arsenal will continue to be linked but I think we need to resolve our managerial situation before planning any big money signings.

Wenger’s position should be reviewed this summer, even if we win the Europa League, and I think we need a change of management so any new boss will have his own transfer targets.
